On the night of the recent rainstorm in Delhi, the lotus lanyards around the necks of volunteers were particularly eye-catching in the mud. Young doctor Purnima broke off her own rope and distributed it to the trapped people: “This is not a decoration, it is a promise.” The broken fibers were rewoven into a larger knot, just like the all-embracing background of the Indian flag: people of different faiths and castes formed a more resilient network of life in the face of disaster. When the sun rises again, the thousands of lotus ropes drying on the steps of the temple are absorbing the light. They and the fluttering national flag bear witness together: the real power does not lie in the perfection of the individual, but in the willingness to become a thin rope to protect the long river of civilization. This is the “Dharma” in Hinduism, and it is also the eternal footnote of modern civic spirit.
